Noticing a drought in fine dining Chinese restaurants, brothers Matthew and Andrew Cheng envisioned a restaurant which would transform the usual perceptions of Chinese food and service. This vision became a reality in May of 2008 with Matthew moving to Sydney from Hong Kong and Andrew selling his Kirribilli café of 10 years to bring you Cheng’s on Fitzroy.


In combining their contrasting talents, the Cheng brothers pride themselves on providing quality food and service. All the dishes are personally selected by Matthew, the head chef, and highlight the creative fusion of traditional and modern Chinese cooking which have influenced his unique recipes. The incomparable flavours which Matthew adds to each menu item are influenced by his creative and passionate personality.


The fresh ingredients and distinctive menu is coupled with the personal and attentive service offered by Andrew and his staff. Despite being a modern, fine dining restaurant, Andrew draws upon his 10 year experience in the hospitality industry to ensure that each diner is guaranteed a homely and comfortable dining experience.
